Samsung and Apple dominated sales during the third quarter of 2018

The South Korean multinational Samsung led the sales of smartphones within the market segment between prices ranging from $ 400 to $ 600, followed by Apple and Huawei. Likewise, it was also the second manufacturer that has sold more mobiles in this period globally, reaffirming its status as a leader.

A report from the consulting firm Counterpoint Research revealed the numbers after sales of smartphones during the period between July, August and September of this year.

There, as highlighted by Phonearena, it can be seen that the global sales of smartphones in this period decreased by 5%, although -as mentioned in the same report- those related to the premium or high-end segment increased considerably, representing a 22% of the global market.

As for the protagonists of these sales, the report highlights that Apple and the iPhone accounted for almost half of all sales for the quarter, while Samsung ranked second with 22% and Huawei was third with 12% share in the market , which gives clear evidence of the growth of the brand, since it is the first time that the Chinese manufacturer reaches both figures.

On the other hand, if we divide the market share in prices, it can be said that in the range of 400 to 600 dollars who led the sales was Samsung, with a market share of 25%, followed by Apple (21%) and Huawei (17%). The Vivo and Oppo brands completed the Top Five, mainly due to its popularity in China and, finally, the sixth place was left for Xiaomi with a 6% market share.

In a higher segment, as far as price is concerned, the report mentions Apple and Samsung as undisputed leaders in the range from $ 600 to $ 800, representing altogether 82% of the total. However, as the report highlights, only Apple was able to maintain its popularity in the segment of more than $ 800.

Finally, the consultancy Counterpoint Research also highlights the Chinese firm OnePlus as one of the fastest growing brands in the segment of 400 to 600 dollars, relying on the popularity achieved in countries such as India, China and the United Kingdom.
